Although Springdale Road is a county road, Mason County Judge-Executive James L. "Buddy" Gallenstein has met with officials from the Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 Office in Flemingsburg to work up an estimate for needed repairs to the roadway. The repairs are necessary because the roadway wasn't constructed to handle heavy tractor-trailers and dump trucks moving product in and out of Carmeuse Lime and Stone and because of constant shoulder failure along the creek beds running parallel to the road.

The immediate goal for now is to keep the road in good repair to handle the current traffic flow, said Gallenstein and Bart Bryant, chief engineer for District 9.

Gallenstein said six to eight spots have been identified as weak spots in the road. Bryant said certain failures, like the foundation or base of the road and failures under the surface will need to be addressed for future maintenance of the road. To fix such failures, the existing asphalt would need to be dug out and the roadway reconstructed, then resurfaced, said Gallenstein.
